ETI Bangladesh organized two one-day refresher training-workshops for the Sexual Harassment Complaints Committees (SHCC) members on 24 and 25 November 2024, in Dhaka. The training involved SHCC members from factories to review their roles and responsibilities in addressing workplace issues related to GBV. The events were participated by 119 SHCC members of 47 RMG factories. There were 93 female participants and 26 male participants.
The sessions opened with a discussion on the UN's 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and its connection to SHCC activities. Participants went through key concepts regarding gender and gender-based violence (GBV) workplace challenges, and the role of SHCC in proactive actions as well as addressing grievances regarding GBV. Participants shared workplace experiences, enabling factors, challenges, and the effectiveness of existing mechanisms and to-dos.
Participants discussed the relationship among SHCC, Participation Committees (PC), trade unions and factory management to clarify their distinct roles in resolving workplace issues.
They developed action plans for next one year to combat GBV in their respective factories and outlined their activities for the celebration of 16 Days of Activism to raise awareness on workplace safety and gender equity.
