Representatives from 21 tannery factories came together in two batches of full-day learning events to share progress, assess outcomes, and outline future commitments to improve environmental and social practices.
The discussions focused on cross-learning among factories, where participants shared what has worked in their contexts, what has not, and the underlying reasons behind those outcomes. Factories highlighted practical approaches that proved effective in strengthening environmental management and workplace practices, while also openly discussing barriers such as operational constraints, resource limitations, and behavioural challenges. A significant part of the dialogue centered on the contribution of project interventions, with participants reflecting on how different components supported change within their factories. The sessions also explored areas where interventions were less effective, generating a deeper understanding of what needs to be adapted for greater impact.
These learning events were organized under the project Improving Environmental and Social Conditions in the Savar Tannery Estate, Bangladesh, implemented by a consortium of Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) UK, ETI Bangladesh, Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF), and Mondiaal FNV.
