As part of ongoing efforts to improve the environmental and social conditions in the Savar Tannery Estate, ETI Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) shared environmental assessment reports with 21 tanneries. These factories are members of the Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leather Goods and Footwear Exporters’ Association (BFLLFEA). The event took place on 30 July 2025 in the BFLLFEA office. The association helped to organise the event. Factory managers and BFLLFEA representatives were present.
The reports came from an assessment of 40 factories. The team used combination of historical data with onsite observations. The reports shared with the 21 factories show key findings. The reports also provided suggestions to reduce pollution. Reports will be given to the remaining 19 factories in the next step.
The event had a short presentation. It highlighted overall key findings from the assessment. After the presentation, the group had an open discussion. Factory staff and BFLLFEA members joined the talk. They said the reports helped find gaps in current practices. They also said the reports will help build better systems. Several participants also said the reports will help reach global standards like Leather Working Group (LWG).
The event ended with the handover of reports to factory representatives. This work is part of a larger effort to improve factory practices. The reports will help factories follow national rules and meet global standards. Participants said they are ready to use better methods. This shows good interest in long-term improvement in the sector.
