ETI Bangladesh, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF), held a one-day Climate Champion Training on 12 November 2025. The event took place at the BFLLFEA Conference Room in the Savar Tannery Estate.
Management and worker representatives from various factories attended the training. The goal was to prepare factory-level resource persons who will promote decent workplace practices and raise awareness on environmental and climate issues using flipcharts in their tanneries.
During the session, participants were introduced to key concepts and messages relevant to improving social and environmental conditions in the Savar Tannery Estate.
A team from UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and SouthSouthNorth, visiting Bangladesh under the SMEP Programme, shared remarks with the participants during the training.
The training emphasised practical approaches to workplace sensitisation, enabling resource persons to confidently lead awareness activities in low-resource settings.
Participants also developed factory-specific plans outlining how they will continue these awareness efforts among workers.
The project aims to create a ripple effect by equipping resource persons from 40 factories with tools and structured content, ensuring tannery workers are informed about climate resilience, environmental compliance, and decent workplace practices.
This initiative is part of the ongoing project in the Savar Tannery Estate under the Sustainable Manufacturing & Environmental Pollution (The SMEP Programme).
