Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Bangladesh organised a three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) from 21 to 23 June 2025.
The ToT was a part of the project titled "Improving Environmental and Social Conditions in the Savar Tannery Estate, Bangladesh," and members of ETI Bangladesh and project implementation partner Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) participated in this training.
This ToT is a step in building the capacity of facilitators who will soon conduct similar sessions with factory management and worker representatives from the tannery sector. The aim is to empower factories to develop and implement action plans in the interest of better environmental and social practices within their factories. The discussions of this training revolved around strengthening internal committees and introducing structured dialogue between workers and management to ensure safer, fairer, and sustainable workplaces within the tannery industry.
ETI Bangladesh expects these steps will help factories meet national labour law and environmental rules. It should also help factories work towards international standards, such as Leather Working Group (LWG) certification. This work supports better compliance and sector sustainability.
