Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Bangladesh organised a two-day training workshop between 8 and 9 February 2026. The workshop aimed to equip youth and women trade union representatives with skills for climate advocacy. These skills will help them lead national-level and factory-level discussions on climate and energy transition in Bangladesh’s ready-made garments sector.
The session on climate and green social dialogue was a highlight of the workshop. Learning from the workshop enabled participants to develop green energy agendas for use in collective bargaining agreements in factories.
The two-day training and capacity-building workshop covered sessions on technical concepts including environment, climate, energy and just transition. The agenda included discussions and demonstrations on advocacy processes, leadership and campaign strategies.
The workshop, held in Dhaka, brought together 37 youth and women trade union representatives nominated by the executive committee of Worker-led Climate Action Network.
Worker CAN operates as a platform for workers to ensure worker voice in addressing climate change impacts and workers’ rights as industries in Bangladesh decarbonise, contributing to the trade union movement.
The workshop is part of ETI Bangladesh’s initiative, “Promoting Just Transition & Environmental Sustainability in Bangladesh’s RMG Sector.” The initiative aims to build the capacity of worker leaders, including youth and women, to engage in dialogue and support a shift to industrial decarbonisation and renewable energy in the ready-made garments sector.
