ETI Bangladesh organized a consultation webinar with RMG factories on 14 May 2024. The event covered Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence (HREDD) and plans for celebrating World Environment Day 2024. World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year, promotes environmental awareness and action. 122 representatives from 57 RMG factories participated this webinar.
The webinar provided an overview of HREDD, its emergence, the OECD framework, and steps factories can take to adopt it. Participants engaged in a discussion on preparing due diligence policies and implementing it across supply chains.
Factories shared their experiences in implementing environmental initiatives and marking World Environment Day 2023. The theme and slogan for 2024, "Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration," were also discussed. Participants used a poll to outline factories’ celebration plans for 2024, including rallies, tree plantations, seminars, awareness campaigns, quizzes, and community engagement share Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials. The webinar facilitated an open discussion where factories highlighted their environmental efforts towards green transition, including energy-saving measures, rainwater harvesting, solar panel installation, and plans for new eco-friendly facilities. Suggestions were made for ETI Bangladesh to take a leadership role in environment friendly initiatives.
