ETI Bangladesh conducted a four-day training programme on Decent Workplace and Social Dialogue for trade union representatives from a ready-made garment factory. The training took place from 17 January 2026 to 20 January 2026 at the ETI Bangladesh office in Dhaka Nine Trade Union representatives from a ready-made garment factory took part in the training.
The training aimed to strengthen industrial relations through capacity building and greater awareness of rights among trade union representatives. It focused on the use of social dialogue to promote workers' rights and benefits, encourage communication between workers and management, and support a safe and respectful working environment.
During the sessions, participants learned the concept and purpose of social dialogue and its role in addressing workplace issues through communication between workers, Trade Unions, and management. The programme also covered the requirements of a decent workplace, including workers’ rights and benefits, occupational health and safety, gender issues, and equal opportunity in line with the Bangladesh Labour Law.
The training covered principles of decent work under Bangladesh Labour Law. Topics included workers' rights and benefits, occupational health and safety, respectful and gender-sensitive conditions, and equal opportunities. Participants learned their role in applying these principles.
Sessions included practical tools for problem resolution with the Problem Identification and Plan (PIP) method. The programme explained grievance mechanisms to allow workers to raise concerns through proper channels for effective resolution.
Discussions addressed the role and responsibilities of trade unions, areas of collective bargaining, and the bargaining process. Participants explored how social dialogue builds trust, confidence, understanding, and cooperation between workers and management to protect rights, reduce disputes, and establish decent workplaces.
