Workers and management at a Ready Made Garmensts (RMG) factory agreed on an action plan to strengthen social dialogue and improve workplace practices following a joint training held on 8 February 2026 in Hemayetpur, Savar, Dhaka.
The half-day session was organised by Ethical Trading Initiative Bangladesh under its Social Dialogue Workplace Programme. Sixteen participants attended, including nine trade union members and seven management representatives. The programme brought both parties together to support cooperation, address workplace issues and promote compliance with labour law in the ready-made garment sector.
The training covered the role and functions of trade unions, legal obligations, collective bargaining processes and recommendation mechanisms. It also addressed conduct in meetings and engagement between representatives.
The programme was delivered in two phases. First, participants observed the factory’s formal meeting procedures, participation of trade union representatives and discussion processes. Second, ETI Bangladesh reviewed current practices, identified gaps and facilitated discussion on agenda setting to improve workplace conditions, occupational safety and health, welfare measures and productivity.
Participants agreed to take forward measures on attendance, skills development, use of personal protective equipment and compliance with working hour limits to support standards and reduce audit findings.
