Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Bangladesh, with its consortium partner Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF), carried out a week-long campaign in the Savar Tannery Estate as part of the celebration of World Environment Day 2025.
The campaign was organised as part of “Improving Environmental and Social Conditions in the Savar Tannery Estate, Bangladesh” project.
The campaign aimed to raise awareness about the challenges to environmental sustainability. It encouraged tannery workers and management officials to use energy efficiently, manage waste and water properly, reduce plastic use, adopt renewable energy, and shift to low-carbon sources.
ETI Bangladesh developed a poster for the campaign that highlighted these key messages. The posters were distributed in 39 tanneries, the office of the Tannery Workers Union (TWU), the office of the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), and other important locations within the estate (Reaching a total of 1,864 workers, 1,683 men, 181 women).
The project team visited each factory to distribute the posters and held short discussions with key stakeholders, including trade union leaders, government officials, tannery owners and workers. These discussions aimed to inform them about environmentally friendly practices in daily life.
