Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) is implementing the Workplace based Social Dialogue Programme to improve industrial relations by promoting constructive dialogue between workers and management. The initiative supports active worker representation and conflict resolution in factories through capacity building and awareness.
Project Goal
To improve industrial relations by enhancing capacity and increasing awareness among workers and management on mutual rights and responsibilities through Social Dialogue within the workplace.
Major Activities
- Conduct awareness sessions for all factory employees on Social Dialogue.
- Provide multiple training sessions for supervisors and managers on Social Dialogue, effective leadership, and worker engagement.
- Organise joint half-day training sessions for management and worker PC representatives on meeting management and communication.
- Host workshops for mid- and senior managers outside the factory to review progress and share lessons.
- Deliver trainings for elected PC worker representatives on Social Dialogue, worker rights, grievance handling, and labour law.
- Provide trainings for female PC representatives focused on gender-specific workplace issues, communication, and leadership.
- Arrange trainings for PC Vice Chair and 1-day training for PC Member Secretary to build their understanding of roles and responsibilities.
- Create opportunities for PC leaders to meet and learn from counterparts in other factories through joint training sessions.
Outcomes
- All factory employees have increased awareness of Social Dialogue, workplace rights, and gender equality.
- Supervisors and managers apply improved leadership and communication skills to manage workplace issues constructively.
- Participation Committees (PCs) or Trade Unions (TU) operate more effectively, with members confident in their roles and responsibilities.
- Elected PC worker representatives have a clear understanding of Social Dialogue, grievance procedures, and labour law.
- Female PC and TU members are more confident and active in representing women’s issues and participating in factory dialogue.
- Communication and trust between workers and management are strengthened, contributing to a more stable and inclusive workplace.
