Ethical Trading Initiative Bangladesh (ETI Bangladesh) organised a four-day training programme on Decent Workplace and Social Dialogue from 26 to 29 January 2025 at Dhaka. 15 members of the Participation Committee (PC) from two Ready-Made Garment factories attended the programme.
The training aimed to strengthen the knowledge and capacity of the Participation Committee. Participants learned about the concept, background, and necessity of social dialogue, labour rights, workplace safety, gender-sensitive practices, and decent workplace conditions.
The programme covered understanding social dialogue, including its procedures and benefits, and ways to resolve workplace issues through democratic decision-making. Participants also received guidance on decent workplace conditions, such as safe working environments, legal working hours, job security, protection from violence and harassment, fair wages, and occupational health and safety.
Practical tools for problem resolution using the Problem Identification and Plan (PIP) method were shared, and the grievance mechanism was explained to enable workers to raise concerns through proper channels. The training also clarified the roles and responsibilities of Participation Committees, focusing on building trust, cooperation, and communication between workers and management.
The training improved participants’ knowledge of their rights and responsibilities. It is expected to enhance communication between workers and management, strengthen workplace safety, protect workers’ rights, and contribute to higher worker satisfaction.
