Ethical Trading Initiative Bangladesh, in partnership with the Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA), has organised a two-day training on Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence (HREDD) at SAF Industries Ltd. in Jashore from 22-23 July 2026, marking another step in a wider effort to embed due diligence practices across Bangladesh’s tannery sector. A mixed group consisting a total of 22 management and worker representatives participated in the training.
For SAF Industries Ltd., HREDD was a new concept going into the training. Coming out of it, participants understand not just what HREDD means, but why it matters for their factory: due diligence is increasingly what buyers and regulators expect of suppliers, and factories that build it into how they operate put themselves in a stronger position to grow their business and deepen buyer relationships. That shift, from an unfamiliar term to a concept participants see as tied to their own competitiveness, is the clearest outcome of the training.
What SAF Industries Ltd. takes forward is its own: a factory-led action plan, a self-assessment tool to track progress and a 15-member in-house training team ready to keep raising awareness on the factory floor. The hope is that this ownership outlasts the training itself, and that the practices taking root at SAF Industries can take shape to become a sustainable proactive practice.
