Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Bangladesh, as part of the Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution Programme (SMEP) consortium, joined a special campaign marking The World Day for Decent Work (WDDW) at Savar Tannery Estate on 8 October 2024. The campaign was organized by the Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) at the Savar Tannery Estate on October 8th to mark the occasion.
The WDDW is observed globally every year on 7 October, bringing together workers' associations, trade unions, and organizations to champion fair and decent working conditions.
The event saw participation from more than 200 individuals, including inspectors from the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE), representatives from the Tannery Workers Union, Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA), trade union leaders, and factory representatives.
The day began with a meeting at the Tannery Workers Union office, where both workers and organizational representatives delivered speeches emphasizing the significance of WDDW. The campaign concluded with a rally through the tannery estate, where participants held banners and placards calling for better working conditions in the tannery sector.
