Stakeholders in the Savar Tannery Estate initiated the development of a capacity-building toolkit on Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence to strengthen risk identification, value chain mapping and responsible business conduct in the leather sector.
On 25 February 2026 in Dhaka, ETI Bangladesh, Bangladesh Labour Foundation and Leather Development Forum organised an Input Workshop on Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence. The workshop brought together representatives from tanneries, business associations, trade unions, non-governmental organisations, government agencies and development partners.
The workshop examined the current level of awareness of Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence across the sector. Participants identified human rights and environmental risks within supply chains and discussed training content, policy knowledge and documentation gaps. They reviewed existing systems, including environmental management systems and chemical management practices, to inform the development of the toolkit.
The initiative forms part of the Improving Environment and Social Conditioning in the Savar Tannery Estate, Bangladesh project, supported by the Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution Programme.
