
On 19 January 2025, ETI Bangladesh organised a validation workshop on the Tannery Safeguarding Strategy in Dhaka. The event was attended by 25 participants, including representatives from the tannery business association, trade unions, government departments, civil society organizations, bilateral organizations, non-governmental organizations, and international organizations.
The draft Tannery Safeguarding Strategy has been developed under FCDO/ UKAID project, “Improving Environmental and Social Conditions in the Savar Tannery Estate, Bangladesh” being implemented in Bangladesh by Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Bangladesh, Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) and Mondiaal FNV.
The workshop provided an opportunity to review and refine the strategy. The session began with an overview of the project. The draft strategy was presented, followed by an open discussion where participants offered feedback and suggestions to improve its practicality and effectiveness for the tannery sector. The workshop concluded with participants expressing their commitment to a tannery estate free from child labour and aimed at fostering better working conditions.
